Yaks are vulnerable and exceptional species feeding on the high vegetation of 2000-4000meters above sea level in the Mongolian beautiful Khangai region. To survive extremely cold winters of -40 degree yaks grow special downy layer on their skin. This is called yak down characterized by its incredible softness and warmth. Yak down is astoundingly durable, light and cashmere like softness is the valuable gift of nature. Each year Uujin collect raw yak from herders of Zavkhan, Ovorkhangai and Arkhanghai aimags of Mongolia. Harvesting down hair from yak is a harmless process for the animals as the down hair naturally loosens from skin in the spring time.
Mongolia is the primary source of the world’s best quality cashmere. Each cashmere quality is unique to geographical areas within Mongolia. Uujin collects raw cashmere from our own family of herders of Tov and Ovorkhangai aimags each year between March and April when the goats naturally sheds their downy layer from their skin.

NEMAS has successfully presented its first collection at Who’s Next salon in Paris on 20-22 January, 2024.
